A 110,000 year old incomplete human lower jaw bone was recently found in a cave in Mulan Moutain in the Jiangzhou district of Chongzuo city, in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

"The finding was strong evidence to prove the multiregional model, and from this evidence, it was significant to solve the academic dispute between 'the multiregional mode' and 'out of Africa theory'," said Wu Xinzhi, an academician from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

He was referring to a scientific debate between proponents of the theory that man evolved out of Africa, and supporters of a different theory, that humans evolved from different parts of the world. That a human fossil this old was found in China may help show that the multiregional theory better explains how humans evolved.
